Description

After a short climb (Katzensteig) up to this magnificent vantage point high above the Bäderquartier, the effort is rewarded with a wide view across the Rhine Valley to the nearby Black Forest. A panorama board not only makes orientation easier, but also provides some interesting information about the remains of the walls of a medieval high watchtower just a few metres away. The entire route is now relatively flat or sloping. After 500 metres, you reach the Acheberg restaurant. The well-known Loretto Chapel is located next to it. The path then leads you to the edge of the forest (Geisswies) above Koblenz. There is also a panorama board with lots of interesting information. You soon reach the upper part of the village and the Koblenz-Dorf SBB railway stop. From here, you can take the train back (option B) or opt for the second part of the hike.

From Koblenz, the route follows a well-maintained riverside path along the only remaining free-flowing stretch of the Rhine between Lake Constance and Rotterdam. At Koblenzer Laufen, the Rhine flows downstream in foaming, rushing rapids over rocky banks. Shortly before Laufen, there is a Roman lookout point directly on the hiking trail. You can't miss it. Later, you will also come across the historic Barzmühle mill on the Rhine. It has been restored in recent years and put back into working order. The water wheel has also been rebuilt and is occasionally in operation.
