Description
You’ll start at the Industrie bus stop in Etziken. The cemetery of a Celtic village from the 7th century BCE is located in Erdbeeri-Ischlag, east of Subingen. The cemetery comprises 20 burial mounds in which, almost exclusively, women were buried. At the eastern end of the forest, you will reach the small Inkwilersee lake. Shortly before silting up, it was extensively cleaned up and renatured. The stilt houses discovered on the Inkwilersee and Burgäschisee lakes are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. However, since the discoveries are underwater, you’ll have to make do with the info boards. Via Bolken and Aeschi, you’ll reach Burgäschisee – at 700 metres long and 500 metres wide, it’s definitely the largest lake in the canton of Solothurn! The lake beckons you to stop for a swim. The Seeblick restaurant is a great place to kick back and soak up the surroundings. As you continue towards Etziken, you’ll cross the invisible Bern-Olten-Zurich railway line. Shortly before the end of your journey, you’ll come across the 40-metre high Etziken water tower. Its observation deck offers a magnificent panoramic view of the entire region. Carry on straight through the village and you’re back at the starting point.
