Description
The scenic circular route starts in the peaceful Oberbaselbiet community of Gelterkinden. Barely in the saddle, the first ascent to Rünenberg must be overcome. The idyllic farming village with a farm shop lies in the middle of one of the high plateaus of the Tafeljura. Next, it goes on to Kilchberg, the smallest community in Baselbiet. The elaborately restored St. Martin Church is considered the last significant monument of neo-Gothic church architecture in the canton. During the descent down to Zeglingen, you enjoy the cool breeze. Shortly after, a short climb follows to the pretty Oberbaselbiet village of Oltingen, where a visit to the old parsonage garden and church is worthwhile. The lovingly restored garden, based on old drawings from the 18th century, is publicly accessible and invites you to unwind.
Via Anwil and the Baregg estate, the route leads uphill towards Farnsberg. The wooded Jura hill features a diverse flora and fauna. Blooming dry meadows, hedge areas, and open forests line the path. A detour to the Farnsburg ruin is worthwhile. The extensive castle complex was built in 1330. The impressive remains of the shield wall, towers, historic buildings, and well-preserved ring wall allow you to immerse yourself in the time of the Habsburgs. The view of the Alps and the Black Forest is especially impressive in good weather. The route continues around the Farnsberg, and the final descent via Rickenbach to Gelterkinden almost goes by itself.
The varied circular route is a rewarding excursion at any time of the year. In farm shops and restaurants, you can discover a wide range of regional products. The views are especially beautiful in spring when the cherry blossoms of Baselbiet are in full splendor.
