"Treber" sausages – a tradition upheld by Biel's winegrowers

The route, signposted as the "Rebenweg" (vineyard trail) starts at the Rebenweg terminal bus stop in Vingelz. The first section, which is around 1 km long, runs through forest. The trail then leads along farm tracks and past the hamlets of Tüscherz, Wingreis and Twann. The views across Lake Biel and the city of Biel are fascinating; later on St. Peter's Island and the Jolimont will come into view. Shortly after Twann, the Twann river gorge will beckon you. But don't waver, remain on the vineyard trail. It will now be signposted as "Reblehrpfad" (vineyard educational trail). Various information panels provide interesting facts about wine and vines. The church of Ligerz comes into view a little later. It is a popular excursion destination and is also considered a landmark of the region. After a short descent you will arrive in the well-preserved winegrowing village of Ligerz. A visit is well worthwhile, and not simply because of the "Treber" sausages. The sausages, which are cooked in the hot steam produced during the distillation of grape marc, are served with potato salad. If you want to learn more about viticulture, a visit to the "Hof" viticulture museum in Ligerz is recommended. In winter, the museum only opens for groups and on request.
