Description
Shortly after the start at the valley station, the route leads onto the idyllic hiking trail towards Zerfreila. A large part of the most extensive forest area of the Valsertal is crossed, which gives this first half of the route a very quiet and mysterious atmosphere. Passing refreshing streams and lonely forest chapels, the steepest passages are mastered early on. Later, the trail has a rather gentle and varied gradient. Only shortly before Zervreila does the narrow gorge finally widen and the dense forest is left behind for the first time when you reach the tranquil clearings in Bleika. The Zervreila restaurant soon follows, and the dam wall, the centrepiece of the route, is reached via a short stretch of road. At 151m, the highest structure in the Vals Valley offers a spectacular panorama of the reservoir and the surrounding mountains with the Zerfreila and Güferhorn. The subsequent climb up to the picturesque hamlet of Frunt is as short as it is steep and forms a central challenge. Finally, the popular panoramic hiking trail crosses the Kristalloch high moor region and reaches the destination at the Gadastatt mountain station without any major differences in altitude.
