Description

The tour goes from St.Gallen to Steinach on Lake Constance: hikers walk through a model of the solar system. The planets along the trail are positioned to scale to reflect the distances between the actual planets in the solar system. Which in this case is 1:1 billion. One metre on the trail is equivalent to 1 million km in space.  Each planet also has an information board which provides basic knowledge about astronomy.

The path from the sun to the earth is a short walk inside the grounds of the Botanical Garden in the east of St.Gallen. The second part, from Mars to Pluto, is the hiking trail that goes from St.Gallen via Mörschwil to Obersteinach. You can discover the universe while enjoying a wonderful view of Lake Constance on the nature trails that follow. The trail ends at Glinzburg Castle near Obersteinach with the most distant and smallest planet Pluto.
