Description
Saanen: Toboggan run with spectacular viewsThe gondola lift takes you from the traffic-free chalet village of Gstaad comfortably up to the Wispile mountain station. Before the fast ride on skids starts, you can enjoy the winter hike with the (snowshoe) Snooc, about 40 minutes to the start. The easy hike leads along a beautiful panoramic path along the ridge. As "compensation" an impressive view of the Spitzhorn, a fore peak of the Wildhorn, beckons.
At the Chrinetritt it starts immediately. The upper part of the trail, which is also used by winter hikers, is definitely not for the fainthearted. The descent starts immediately steep and fast, one gets really speedy and has to watch out for the narrow curves. This part of the route is rightly advertised for "adventure sledgers". The lower part is a little less steep. Along different forest sections, the downhill run, which takes about an hour to calculate, winds over mostly open fields.
At the bottom of the valley, at the foot of the Col du Pillon, lies the village of Gsteig, which is under a preservation order. Its church and the neighbouring Hotel Bären with its traditionally painted façade are one of the most frequently photographed typical Swiss townscapes. Gsteig is only a few minutes' walk from the end of the toboggan run. From here the post bus takes you back to the Wispile valley station.
