Description
Arosa is the highest settlement in Schanfigg. Once known as a climatic health resort, the traditional Grisons holiday destination has been part of the expanded Arosa Lenzerheide ski area with over 200 kilometres of pistes since the beginning of 2014. Right in the middle of the resort lies the Tschuggen, part of the central Plessur Mountains and also the starting point of the short toboggan run to Innerarosa. From the popular vantage point, the observer enjoys a beautiful view of the Arosa mountains with the Schafsrugg, Aroser Rothorn or Erzhorn, which is depicted on the municipality's coat of arms. The toboggan run leads first to the south-east, past the astrophysical observatory, which operated the ETH Zurich observatory here from 1939 to 2002. Now the sledge is approaching the legendary Tschuggenhütte, known above all for its après-ski atmosphere. Between the Tschuggenhütte and the church there is a turnoff after which you can either continue on to Innerarosa - or take the gondola up to the start of the cable car again, or on to Tschuggentor.
