Description
The trail is an exciting and educational nature trail, dotted with informational boards along the way. A highlight of the trail is a mechanical Stöckli forming machine from 1910, which can be seen at one of the stations. The trail starts at Habergschwänd heading via Nüenalp where can experience your own Cheese Journey and look over the shoulder of the cheese makers. Carry on to Sattelboden with its new fireplace and enjoy the excellent view of Mullerenberg. Onwards to Chummenwald, the Naturfreundehaus Fronalpstock, for a well deserved overnight stay and a tasty meal such as Zigerhörali. Your reward throughout the journey are magnificent views over the whole Glarnerland and the Linthebene.
To make an adventurous round-trip combine the hike with the UNESCO World Heritage Geological Trail. You should plan 2 days for the round-trip. There are several overnight accommodations along the way.
As a continuation, you can hike on via the Ennetberge to the Glarus train station (5.6 km, 951 meters descent in 2 hours) or you can complete the loop as a two-day hike on the UNESCO World Heritage Geological Trail, back to the starting point Habergschwänd/Filzbach.
If you don't want to walk back to the Näfels-Mollis train station (6.4 km, 960 meters descent in 2 hours), you can pre-order the Reust Taxi 079 283 77 77.
To get there by public transport, take the bus at Näfels-Mollis station, towards Filzbach Sportzentrum.
