Description
From Thusis, the route leads via Sils i.D. into the Albula Valley. The section up to the Solis bridge runs along the busy and winding Schinstrasse road high above the Schynschlucht gorge. After the Solis bridge, which runs parallel to the imposing Solis viaduct of the Rhaetian Railway over the Albula, the route descends via the Alvaschein hill to Tiefencastel. At Tiefencastel, follow the signposts towards Lantsch/Lenzerheide. From there, the route climbs steadily uphill to Valbella. After a well-earned break in the Lenzerheide region, the descent follows with almost 1,000 meters of altitude difference down to Chur.
In Chur, take the cantonal road towards Domat Ems as far as the turn-off to Felsberg and cross the Rhine. Continue via Tamins to Reichenau, the historic hamlet dominated by the castle at the confluence of the Hinterrhein and Vorderrhein rivers. It's worth pausing for a moment to feel like you've been transported back a few centuries in time.
Cycle along the left bank of the Hinterrhein via Bondaduz and Rhäzüns to the Rothenbrunnen junction, where you cross the old village bridge. On the right bank of the Hinterrhein in the valley floor of the Domleschg, you finally return to Thusis in a relaxed manner.
