Description

From the heart of Campo Vallemaggia follow the path that starts above the beautiful church of the village. After a flat stretch, just right to get used to the snow, you will enter a larch forest.

The ascent is demanding, but the landscape is unique. There are some flat stretches that invite you to take a break. The treetops frame the magnificent view of the village, where time seems to stand still. A little further on there is a biotope fed by a watercourse that runs through wooden bulkheads. It is one of the 28 surface water channels built in the last century to stop the well-known landslide.

A little further on you reach the Corte Nuovo, a mountain pasture with rustici (traditional stone houses), a reminder of the important alpine use of the sunny side of the Val Rovana. In fact, the pastures of the Quadrella alp are a testimony to the centuries-old relationship between human and nature that has shaped this area.

Behind us is the Bombögn, a stately mountain, marked by a striking wall that served to protect the pastures of Campo Vallemaggia. The tour continues, accompanied by the breathtaking view over Cimalmotto.

The way back from Cimamotto to Campo Vallemaggia runs again in the middle of the larch wood, crossed by some of the rivers that mark the slope.
