Description

In Dornach, we begin our tour with a visit to the Goetheanum - a striking building designed by Rudolf Steiner as the headquarters of the General Anthroposophical Society. On the ascent to the Schartenfluh, we pass the impressive Dorneck castle ruins. From the Gempen tower, we then enjoy a sweeping panorama over the Basel region and the surrounding castle ruins.

Our hike continues through the Table Jura to the ruins of Alt-Schauenburg and Schauenburgerfluh, where the remains of a Celtic-Roman hilltop sanctuary have been restored. Via Hoher Bannstein on the cantonal border between Basel-Landschaft and Solothurn, we reach Reichenstein Castle, which owes its name to the wealth of the Reich family.

In Arlesheim, the Ermitage awaits us - the largest and most beautiful English landscape garden in Switzerland. This romantic garden with walking paths and viewpoints was created before the French Revolution. Birseck Castle and its castle mound, which were already in a state of decay at the time, were redesigned with grottos and ponds and served as a model for numerous similar parks throughout Europe.

Arlesheim's landmark is the cathedral, which was the seat of the cathedral chapter of the diocese of Basel from 1679 to 1792 after the Reformation. Inside is the last surviving Silbermann organ in Switzerland, dating from 1761.
