Description
After Lago Bianco, the path leads up to the fantastic viewpoint Sassal Mason, from where you have a breathtaking view of Piz Palü, the heart-shaped Lagh da Palü, Alp Grüm, and the Valposchiavo. The high valley of Cavaglia below invites you to linger. The hike repeatedly offers spectacular views of the mountain world, glaciers, and the deeply incised valley floor, with the Bergamasque Alps behind it in Italy. Particularly impressive is the Rhaetian Railway, which coils up the altitude difference in numerous hairpin bends. From the Cavaglia high valley, the path leads past countless Maiensässe down to Poschiavo, the main town of the valley. A detour to the accessible glacier mills is definitely worthwhile – the rotating stones of the prehistoric glaciers have formed smooth cavities and breakthroughs in the rocks.
This route is part of the collection “Hidden gems along the RhB route” and can be ideally combined with the Rhaetian Railway. With the Graubünden Pass, arrival and return are especially flexible.
