Description

The first stage is mostly flat and starts in Langenthal. You will soon see the Cistercian monastery of St. Urban across meadows and forests, and a visit to the church with its famous choir stalls is definitely worthwhile. The route continues along the River Rot to the Wässermatten, a national cultural heritage site. A highlight is certainly the Grünenberg castle ruins in Melchnau, from where the trail leads over the high plateau of Goniswil. From here you have a choice: the 65 border trail route takes you to the official destination of the first stage. However, it is also possible to finish in the hilltop village of Ufhusen. You will find both options in the route description below.
