Description

Ardez is a typical Engadine village. In the middle of the stately farmhouses with their painted and sgraffito-decorated façades, the route leads onto a road. Uphill, the bikers cross a varied alpine landscape until they reach the Maiensässsielung Munt, which lies on a sunny terrace on the southern slope with a view of the Lower Engadine Dolomites. From the timberline, the flora is particularly varied and colourful in summer – and compensates for the exertions of the ascent to the Murtera Dadoura at 2142 metres. At the alp, which was the filming location for the Schellen Ursli film, the trail soon descends. The path becomes a real picture book trail: along the flank of Piz Cotschen we enjoy the magnificent view of the striking peaks on the opposite side of the valley. We reach Alp Sura (2117) at the entrance to Val Tuoi and follow the single trails first through alpine pastureland. We then descend through a sparse larch forest to the village of Guarda (1654), home of Schllen-Ursli. The beautiful houses with their massive arched doors, oriels and ornaments are worth a stop. Guarda was awarded the Wakker Prize in 1975 for the maintenance and preservation of its townscape. The return to Ardez is then a leisurely ride on the road that is free of motorised traffic via the hamlet of Bos-cha.Attention: On high sections, snowfields are possible until the summer months.
