Description
The Chaltenbrunnen Moor near Meiringen is the best-preserved moorland in Switzerland. It can be reached on an interesting circular hike.
The Chaltenbrunnen-Wandelalp mire landscape is about one square kilometre in size. It shows its most beautiful side in the high moor between Gyrensprung and Chaltenbrunnenalp. From late summer onwards, it offers a magnificent display of colour. The sedge areas glow in shades of red and ochre. In between, stands of small-growing mountain pines set bright green accents. The deep blue sky is reflected in countless lakes and pools. The moorland can be reached from the Reichenbach valley. From Zwirgi, you go via Falcheren to Alp Isetwald, an enchanting landscape with meadows, trees and rocks. This paradisiacally beautiful spot was awarded the cultural landscape prize of the Oberland-Ost region in 2008. Via the Wandelalp, you climb to the Chaltenbrunnen high moor. From there, the path is almost level with a magnificent view of the Engelhörner mountains over to the Upper Stafel of the Chaltenbrunnenalp. To return to Zwirgi, use the descent via Seilialp.
