Cross-country trail Wissenegg

Had enough of low-lying cloud and the everyday grind? The trails in sunny Finsterwald, set against an imposing mountain backdrop courtesy of the Schimbrig and the Risetestock, pass through forests and moors within the boundary of the UNESCO Biosphere Entlebuch. They are composed of three distinct circuits: Nesselbrunnenboden, Metteli and Wissenegg.

The Wissenegg trail starts on Glaubenbergstrasse in Finsterwald village. It takes skiers over the high-level moor and through Wiesland, passing the adjoining Fuchsernwald forest and Wissenegg stream to Homberg Farm, where it heads back to the start. When there is enough snow, the return leg of the trail passes through the Fuchsernwald and Geugelhusen (max. 2.8 km).

This section is perfect for those who enjoy special atmospheres with plenty of sun and romantic tracts of woodland. More advanced skiers wishing to work on their technique and stamina are equally well served. The Wissenegg trail can also be reached via the Nesslenbrunnenboden trail, which starts at the Bohrplatte car park. This is where natural gas was extracted from the ground between 1985 and 1994. Because this is a rarity in Switzerland, the Bohrplatte is now an old industrial monument in the Entlebuch.
