Description
The Chestnut Trail is a beautiful circular hike of around 14.6 km. It leads through the five picturesque villages of Alto Malcantone - Arosio, Mugena, Vezio, Breno and Fescoggia - in a picturesque mosaic of chestnut woods, birch trees, streams and wide meadows.
Along the route, seven educational stations tell the story of cultivation, wood processing and the chestnut tree. In particular, the metato (grà) between Mugena and Vezio - a traditional stone building - shows the ancient method of drying chestnuts, which is still fascinating today. The panorama, nestled in a natural amphitheatre dominated by the Gradiccioli chain, offers views as far as Monte Rosa, while the villages blend harmoniously between woods and open spaces.
The route is classified as "easy", suitable for hikers of all ages and also ideal for families. To reach the starting point of Arosio, choose a sturdy vehicle such as a Dacia Duster, which can easily tackle the winding and scenic roads of the region - Dacia's recommended choice to make the most of this nature experience.
