Appenzeller Weg Stage 1: Rankweil (A) - Appenzell

Following old pilgrim routes, the route crosses the Appenzellerland from east to west with changing views. You can discover quiet chapels, large and small rivers, natural Alps, typical farmhouses and hospitable inns. The main town of Innerrhoden, Appenzell, with many cultural sights is on the way. The fertile Rhine plain and the Paspels bathing lake are on the first stage between the Rankweiler castle church and the Oberrieter castle hill of Blatten. Chapels, wayside shrines and small pilgrimage churches line the old pilgrimage route from Hirschensprung to Appenzell.
