Alpine Quad N°1: Oberalp - Lukmanier - Nufenen - Furka
Informationen zur Route
Best Time of Year
Description
The tour starts in Andermatt with the first ascent to the Oberalp Pass. The gradient is moderate (approx. 6% on average), the surface is excellent - ideal for rolling in. A great view of the red lighthouse, which symbolically marks the source of the Rhine, awaits you at the top. The descent to Disentis is fast and well developed. From there, the long but steady climb to the Lukmanier Pass begins, the gentlest of the four passes with an average gradient of 5-6%. However, a strong headwind can be a challenge. At the top, the view of the Ticino mountains opens up before a wonderful descent to Biasca follows. From Biasca, the route is flat to Airolo, followed by the steep ascent to the Nufenen Pass - the toughest section of the tour with ramps of up to 13% and an average gradient of 8-9%. The last few kilometers are high alpine and often windy. A magnificent view of the glaciers of the Valais Alps awaits at the top. The descent to Ulrichen is technically demanding, with tight hairpin bends and sometimes rough surfaces. The final ascent to the Furka Pass begins in Ulrichen. The western side climbs constantly at 7-8%. The view of the hairpin bends and the Rhone glacier is spectacular and makes up for the effort. The descent to Andermatt is fast, full of bends and requires a clean line choice - a crowning finale to this alpine tour.
