Description
The starting point of the hike is located in the village of Welschenrohr. The Wolfsschlucht is a cantonal forest reserve and here shows the immense forces of nature. The path leads upward through the narrow, wild-romantic gorge with caves and washouts, between tall, partly overhanging rock walls. At the end of the ascent, you leave the Wolfsschlucht via a narrow passage. Over wonderful Jura meadows, continue via Tannmatt to Mieschegg and further to Hinter Brandberg. You repeatedly have an excellent view of the opposite side of the valley, where one of the largest contiguous forest areas in Switzerland is located. The descent leads right through a lynx territory back down into the valley to Welschenrohr. We recommend traveling to the Wolfsschlucht by public transport. The bus stop Herbetswil Wolfsschlucht is located directly at the entrance. Parking spaces are signposted in the village center of Herbetswil. From there, the path to the Wolfsschlucht is also marked. Additional parking is also available in Welschenrohr. The Wolfsschlucht is a cantonal nature reserve. Please observe the cantonal regulations (regarding fire, dogs, etc.) and the corresponding markings on site. In wet weather, very good footwear is recommended as it can be slippery.
