Description
The attractive banks of the river Aare offer nature and recreation for all, particularly when the deciduous trees are wearing their autumn colours. Travel by bus from Grenchen South station to the «Archbrücke» bridge by the Lake Biel Navigation Company landing stage. From there, the hike leads on the well signposted hiking trail through the «Witi» nature reserve to Altreu, with a worthwhile stopover at the stork colony, before continuing along the Aare towards Solothurn with a unique view of the Jura peaks to the North.
By the way: beavers have made their home in the «Inseli» area between Selzach and Bellach. The section between Grenchen and Solothurn is considered one of Switzerland's most beautiful river landscapes.
