Via Alta Vallemaggia- Stage 9S: Robièi-Rifugio Maria Luisa

The ninth stage is a real feast for the eyes. Barren alpine mountains, wonderful mountain lakes and the sweet scents of nature. From the Robièi, the trail climbs at the foot of the Basòdino glacier to the Boscchetta di Val Maggia, at 2633 m the highest point of this stage and the crossing into the Italian Piedmont. In Val Formazza, the Walsers settled in the 13th century, which explains the German names of the lakes we pass on the descent towards Rifugio Maria Luisa: Bodenseen (Boden Lake), Kastelsee (Lake Castel) or Fischsee (Toggia Lake). The Rifugio Maria Luisa is located on the Alpe Toggia, a beautiful alp surrounded by high mountains.
