Description
At the starting point of the hike at the Cholgruebe car park, follow the signs to Mülistei Chlosteralp. The path climbs in the forest until shortly before Mülistei. A rest area with a barbecue site invites you to take a break. Continue downhill through the forest until you reach Chlosteralp. Turn sharp left at the signpost towards Hueb. Shortly after leaving the forest, turn left towards Laufenbad. Passing the Laufenbad restaurant and the rest area at the landfill, the route now climbs to Geristein. (Detour to the ruins of Geristein Castle from the 11th century and back: 10 min). At the signpost at Geristein / Kohlgrube and the following signposts, take the route up the Bantiger. Mostly through forest and along the edge of the Bantigehubel clearing, you now climb up to the Bantiger. The 196 metre high radio and television broadcasting tower was inaugurated in 1997. It replaces a tower from 1954, whose facilities were used for the first live broadcast of a sporting event in Europe, the Football World Cup. The location is no coincidence: This was the site of a high lookout, part of a network of high-altitude fires that were used from the mid-15th century until the 19th century to raise the alarm and transmit smoke signals throughout the canton. The panoramic view from the publicly accessible viewing terrace makes up for the effort of the climb. A steep descent in the direction of Chatzestyg (danger of slipping in wet conditions) and finally a relaxing section without any significant differences in altitude lead back to the Cholgruebe car park.
