Description
The Munot, Schaffhausen's landmark, is located in the centre of Switzerland's northernmost city. Historic, beautifully restored fountains splash in the town squares. There is also plenty of water in Neuhausen am Rheinfall. Europe's mightiest waterfall is at its most impressive in summer, when the snow in the Alps melts. For once, the journey through the alluvial forest areas of the floodplains of the Rhine is now on natural paths. The Rhine flows quietly along and it is great fun to cycle along this section of the route. The route now leads over the Thur into the lovely Flaachtal valley. At the mouth of the Töss, you return to the Rhine and make a short visit to the pretty little town of Eglisau, surrounded by vineyards. You should also visit the little bridge town of Kaiserstuhl. From the upper tower dating from the 12th/13th century, the road leads down to the banks of the Rhine. In the spa town of Bad Zurzach you will find the 39.5 degree Glauber's salt spring in the thermal baths.
