Description
You should plan this route as two stages. Stage 1: The bus drops hikers from S-chanf off at the Prasüras car park. From there, it is not far to the Varusch hut and the entrance to the National Park. You enter the Val Müschauns amidst unspoilt primordial landscapes and then climb steeply to Fuorcla Val Sassa. After passing through the rocky desert of Val Sassa, you reach the Cluozza stream, which you follow up to the hut. The Cluozza hut is set in a peaceful, secluded location and offers basic overnight accommodation. It is not unusual to see or hear deer at twilight. Stage 2: From the Cluozza hut, there are two routes back to civilisation: the direct route, which after a short climb descends to Zernez, and another trail, which climbs steeply to Fuorcla Murtèr from behind the hut. En route you will see plenty of game, especially early in the morning (deer, chamois, ibex). The descent on the other side takes you through Legföhren, providing stunning views of the National Park's forests, which are almost Canadian in their immensity. You can catch the bus to Zernez from car park 3.
