Description
You’ll walk through the baroque old town, past the St Ursus Cathedral, or ‘Solothurn Cathedral’, and the Art Museum in the direction of the Verena Gorge. Saint Verena is said to have once appeared at the northern end of the wildly romantic gorge. At the entrance to Rüttenen, the hiking trail branches off in the direction of Galmis, the birthplace of the local writer Josef Reinhart (1875–1957). With a bit of luck, you may be able to spot some deer here. In Niederwil, you’ll cross the Gumme at the old Oele, and after a short climb, you’ll reach Riedholz. Cellulose Attisholz was once vital for supplying the nation’s cellulose. Today, the former industrial site is a focus of development with cultural and culinary attractions. You’ll then hike along the south side of the Aare in the direction of Solothurn. South of Emmespitz, you’ll cross the renatured Emme. Shortly before reaching your destination, the Zuchwil sports centre will tempt you in for a relaxing treat.
