Description

Even the ride up to the Rotenflue in the gondola promises breathtaking views. In the background, the Schwyzer valley basin and Lake Uri, and in the foreground the mighty Grosse Mythen, welcome hikers. The Gipfelstubli restaurant is ideal for a first coffee stop.

From the Rotenflue cable car mountain station, the Schwyzer Höhenweg leads over lush alpine meadows, moorland, and root paths via Halbegg up to the Furggelenstock at 1,656 meters above sea level. The final, slightly bumpy section up to the Furggelenstock is worth the effort, as at the top you are rewarded with a wonderful 360-degree panorama.

Shortly after the summit, on the descent towards Bommersboden, it's worth taking a short detour to the Furggelen Alpine Farm at the Furggelen junction. The sun terrace invites you to relax and offers a fantastic view of the Mythen massif.

From Furggelen, the trail leads through a mosaic of moorland, pastures, and forests with moist, wet soils via Hochacher up to the Ibergeregg pass. It feels like being transported to Scandinavia. It's no wonder the Swiss Foundation for Landscape Conservation named the Ibergeregg moorland forests Landscape of the Year 2019. The wet forests boast a high level of biodiversity. For example, endangered species such as the capercaillie, black grouse, cuckoo, and ring ouzel live on the Ibergeregg.

From Ibergeregg, the hike continues on well-maintained trails – always with views of the Grosser Mythen, Lake Lucerne, Lake Lauerz, and the Schwyz Prealps – back up to the Rotenfluebahn cable car.
