Description

The village of Bosco Gurin is 1504 m above sea level and is a much loved winter sports destination. Thousands visit this idyllic mountain village every year, attracted by the many different sports opportunities it offers. Bosco Gurin is also a very picturesque and historic village in its own right.

It was founded in 1253 by the Walser people who had originally emigrated from Italy and earlier from the canton of Valais. Even today you can still marvel at the typical constructions built using the “Blockbau” tree trunk system.

The snowshoe walk starts in the hamlet of Ferder, just above the main village, and forms a short loop. You head towards Endra Staful along a route that climbs through some enchanting snow-clad scenery with views down to Bosco Gurin. Just below the “Bannwald” (or Bawald) protection forest, you make for Metschu and then a steep descent takes you back to Ferder. You pass some attractive Walser buildings along the way.

If you’re really lucky, you might even come across some “Weltu”, small friendly wood dwellers with inverted feet who watch over the villagers’ cattle during heavy snowfalls and bad weather.
