Description
The starting point for the hike over Hasenmatt mountain to Gänsbrunnen is the ‘Im Holz’ station in Lommiswil. You’ll soon come across the dinosaur tracks in the Lommiswil quarry – the many footprints can also be clearly seen from the secured platform. Several information boards explain the background history. You can also find out more about the dinosaur tracks at the Solothurn Natural History Museum. The ascent to Hasenmatt then leads through the colourful beech forest. At the highest point in the canton of Solothurn, the Hasenmatt, you can look out onto a stunning 360-degree panoramic view. At the summit cross, there is a wonderful view of the high alpine chain. Far below, the Aare river flows leisurely through the Swiss Plateau. The next stop is only a few metres lower at the Althüsli mountain restaurant, before continuing via Chessel and Rüschgraben to Gänsbrunnen. The train back to Lommiswil is then ready and waiting for you at the train station, which makes this hike a perfect public transport tour.
