Description

The high altitude Jungfrau Eiger Walk leads from Eigergletscher station, on a well developed path, steadily downhill to Kleine Scheidegg. On the route, which can also be walked in the opposite direction, there are wooden structures displaying information taking you through the history of the Eiger North Face.

Just before you reach the Fallboden lake, the path leads past the old Mittellegi mountain hut, which once stood on the north-east ridge of the Eiger. Peering inside the hut, you get an insight into the sparse hut conditions of the alpine pioneer era. A little further on is the "Chilchli", which used to serve as a transformer station for the Jungfrau Railway. Today it houses an exhibition on the history of the Eiger north face traverse. Opposite is the Fallbodensee, the lake is man made and once served as a water reservoir to support artificial snow-making on the surrounding ski slopes. The benches in the lake invite you to linger and dip your toes into the cool mountain water. Follow the path further until you reach the Kleine Scheidegg mountain station.
