Il Malögin

The suggested route leads via the Belvedere tower, which stands directly on the cliff down into Bergell and offers a spectacular view of the valley. During the summer months, Pro Natura shows exhibitions on the landscape history of Maloja and on changing current topics in the tower. You can admire a bit of landscape history "live" in the pine forest between Maloja and the tower - here are several well-preserved glacier mills that remind us of the glacial impact on the landscape. Although the Malögin (as the path from Casaccia to Maloja is called) is in places quite steep, cart tracks have been imprinted in the rocky ground in some spots - a sign that the path was probably also used by carts in the past. Other interesting places touched by this short route are the ruins of the ancient church of San Gaudenzio and those of the "Torr" above Casaccia. According to legend, Gaudenzio converted the valley population to Christianity in the 4th century.
