Description
Step by step, you place the crampons into the firn. Step by step, you struggle upwards. Hopefully, there are steps in the firn – because the tour is not recommended on bare ice. Looking back, you see that you have already gained quite a bit of height above the shark fin. To your left and right, it is steeply dropping off. You look up again and cannot see the end of the ladder. It leads steeply upwards and disappears into the steel-blue sky. The frequently used term "Sky Ladder" could not be more fitting for the most beautiful firn ridge in the Alps! From Piz Bianco, you climb over granite in steady ups and downs of several rock towers. It is even airier than on the white ridge, and then you reach Piz Bernina by block terrain. The descent is somewhat easier but still demands your full attention. Several rappels finally bring you into flatter terrain, and then you walk happily and contentedly into Rifugio Marco e Rosa.
