Grosse Scheidegg

Description
The starting point of the route is Grindelwald, the world-famous village at the foot of the Eiger. The route rises already at the exit of the village and quickly leads to the first heights, which offer an overview of the wide valley. On the pass road, which is closed to private traffic and has few curves (only post buses run), you reach, with occasional views of the north face of the Eiger, the Grosse Scheidegg.
At the highest point of the route, the impressive view of the striking Wetterhorn rewards the climb. Following the Rychenbach, the descent leads through the Rosenlaui Valley. Soon, the mighty Engelshörner rise on the right side and a stop at the Rosenlaui Glacier Gorge is recommended. From here, the route runs mostly straight to the Reichenbach Falls. Those fighting the heat will find refreshment in the splashing spray of the roaring falls – where Sherlock Holmes fought his arch-enemy. The route winds down the mountain and you quickly gain speed. Demanding curves and individual traffic from Schwarzwaldalp require caution. Near Schattenhalb, the route leads out of the partly wooded final section and on the way to the village center of Meiringen, you finally cross the Aare, which springs not far from here.
The entire route connects to the post bus line.
