Description
The starting point of the hike is Sobrio which sits on a natural terrace dating back to the ice age. This position provides an incredible view of the Middle Leventina.
The trail begins with a fairly steep climb. After hiking mostly through a mixed forest, about 500 metres higher up reach the area of Cascine, located in a clearing. This is approximately the halfway point of the climb: the second part also winds through the forest up to Bassa dei Cantói, the highest point of the route. Continue along a panoramic trail across wide pastures and brightly coloured meadows, surrounded by centuries-old larches.
After crossing the gentle slopes, reach the Pian d'Alpe hut, nestled in a pine forest. During the summer season, the hut is open to the public and offers local specialties as well as overnight accommodation. The trail continues downhill along large hairpin bends to the imposing Vallone Gorge. In an elevated position above the Dragone brook, the route continues slightly uphill again and returns to Sobrio.
