Description
The hiking trail from Gimmelwald to Mürren passes the Schwendi area. A small stream and a beautiful old maple tree structure the meadowland in an attractive way. On the edge of the forest, orchids, Turk's cap and other mountain flowers thrive. In recognition of their efforts to preserve this scenic gem, the farmers received the cultural landscape award of the Oberland-Ost region in 2019.
The steep mowing meadow lies directly above the Mürrenfluh. The view is magnificent: it stretches from the Männlichen chain over the Jungfrau to the north walls of the rear Lauterbrunnen valley.
From Mürren you go to the "Sprutz", the waterfall of the Schiltbach, which shoots down into the depths below the hamlet of Stutz. The hiking trail leads between the waterfall and the rock face. The section should be walked with caution, as the slope is steep and the path narrow (a somewhat exposed section is secured with a rope). The descent to Gimmelwald is in the forest and on scenic pastureland.
