Forno hut - Piz dei Rossi - Maloja

The saddle in the western ridge of the Piz dei Rossi can be reached from the Rifugio Forno via the lake at p. 2751. The final ascent to the main summit leads just below the western ridge through the southern flank of Piz dei Rossi and can be tricky depending on the snow conditions. This is why you usually stay at the saddle.

The descent first leads through the short but steep north couloir of the saddle. Once you have reached the firn field of Vadrec dei Rossi, you head for P. 2383 on slopes that are often powdery, and then head east into Val Muretto. Along the valley floor you go to Plan Canin and from there to Maloja.
