Description

The young Aare has created a deep bed with steep flanks below Guttannen. The old Grimsel mule track runs through this primeval landscape.

The beautiful historic trail to the Grimsel Pass leads from Innertkirchen first to the striking boulder of the Achistein, then through forest and meadowland over the Äussere Urweid to the Inneren Urweid. Continuing on an easy ascent, you then cross a particularly well-preserved section of the old mule track with many dry stone walls on the uphill and downhill sides.Beautiful views of the Grimsel region can be enjoyed on the section to the hamlet of Boden. Shortly before reaching the village of Guttannen, there is a special idyll to discover: Blindlaui is a small, green island surrounded by sloping mountain forest and the impetuous young Aare. The meadows and pastures drop adventurously steeply to the riverbed, making cultivation a laborious affair. In view of its ecological quality, the charming grass-covered cliff was awarded the cultural landscape prize of the Oberland-Ost region in 2013.

The hiking trail is best enjoyed when the Grimsel Pass road is closed.
