Description
The hike begins at the abandoned train station in Riedtwil, which can be easily reached by bus from Wynigen or Herzogenbuchsee. From there, follow the road towards the center of the village and turn right into Oschwandstrasse at the "Riedtwil" signpost. The waterfall is indicated on the sign with a walking time of "30 minutes" - and indeed, the impressive Mutzbach Falls can be reached quickly. The trail leads along the Mutzbach stream, past a biotope and the "Mutzgraben" rest and barbecue area and follows the Amiet Hesse Trail for a while. This art and culture trail was created in honor of the painters Cuno Amiet and Bruno Hesse, who lived and worked here. Information steles along the trail provide information about the places that served as inspiration for their art.
The Mutzbach Falls, 14 meters high, cascades over a sandstone wall into a basin surrounded by forest. The waterfall is particularly impressive in spring, when the stream is particularly full of water. The hiking trail leads over wooden steps and a short metal ladder that winds its way up to the left of the waterfall. From there, you have a spectacular view of the fall and then continue hiking above the Mutzbach stream through the forest. A little later, cross the stream on a metal bridge and follow the path to the "Mutzgraben" signpost. While the Amiet-Hesse trail leads to the left in the direction of Oschwand, you continue to climb at a leisurely pace up to Rüedisbach, from where there is a magnificent panoramic view. After the village, at Hinter Leggiswil, there is also a beautiful view of the Jura. The crowning glory is the descent to Wynigen, from where there is even a magnificent view of the Alps.
