Description

The first 5 km or so lead over the Swiss Army's Hinterrhein tank firing range. Be sure to check the firing times the day before the hike. At the firing range, be sure to take the path along the left side of the Hinterrhein. Further into the valley, there is no longer a bridge over the stream to the left side of the river, where the mountain trail to the Zapporthütte starts.

The actual mountain hike begins at the end of the shooting range. The approach via the Zapportstafel to the SAC hut is a challenging T3 mountain trail. There is often still a lot of snow on the access routes well into the summer.

The hiking trail leads along the young Hinterrhein as far as the Zapportstafel. After a thunderstorm, the water can easily reach the hiking trail. Rocky or exposed passages are well secured with chains. Over the Zapportstafel, the trail continues through the 'Höll', a small gorge with washed-out pools. The Zapporthütte is soon in sight and the destination reached.

The Zapporthütte is manned in the summer months.

Any hiking trail closures/restrictions or detour can be found here.
