Brogoldone hut
Informationen zur Route
Description
From the village of Lumino, opt for either a hike of about two hours or take the Pizzo di Claro cable car which reaches the Monti di Saurù directly in less than 15 minutes. Upon arrival with the cable car, visitors are welcomed by the Osteria Saurù, a restaurant located at 1300 metres above sea level, to enjoy simple, traditional cuisine and to admire the view.
The Capanna di Brogoldone can be reached in about 2 hours by following the easy trail lined with several wooden sculptures made by chainsaw by artists from Ticino and Mesolcina. Along the trail are illustrated educational panels featuring the flora and fauna of the region.
The Alpe di Brogoldone is considered one of the most fascinating panoramic terraces in Ticino and is the starting point for pleasant summer and winter hikes to Pizzo di Claro (also known as Visagno), Pizzo Molinerae and Pizzo Martum.
Once alpine pasture buildings, the hut is now the result of the wish to keep the testimonies of a bygone era alive. From 1995 to 1998, a group of volunteers transformed the 2 existing buildings while maintaining the structures’ traditional forms: the former stable has thus become the new dormitory, and the building once used as the dairy and shelter for the alpine farmer is the new kitchen and dining hall. The new hut is open and supervised from mid-May to the end of October and has 57 beds available. During winter only part of the hut remains open.
The return descent to the Monti di Saurù is about an hour.
