Description

The round trip is known as the SchweizMobil Route 502. It starts at Kurhaus Balmberg. On the ascent to Nesselbodenröti, the Rötifluh provides you with a glimpse into the geology of the Solothurn Jura. Near Nesselbodenröti – at an altitude of 1,223 metres – you can make a detour to the imposing Balmfluechöpfli viewpoint. The lakes of Biel, Neuchâtel and Murten seem close enough to touch from up there. The Röti, with a triangulation point, is then reached after a short climb in the opposite direction. Take a break here to enjoy beautiful views over the Vosges mountains, towards the Black Forest and to the huge steam cloud of the Gösgen nuclear power plant. From Röti, the path leads pleasantly downhill to Hotel Weissenstein and the Weissenstein cable car station.

After a glass of wine and a bite to eat at Hotel Weissenstein, the route takes you back to the starting point via the Balmberg Pass. Before embarking on your return route, a visit to the Jura garden directly below the terrace of Hotel Weissenstein is worthwhile. There, some 200 plants typical of the Solothurn Jura and its neighbouring areas can be admired. Lovingly cared for and labelled from June to September, the plants, in varying colours from season to season, make a wonderful picture in the terraced garden.
