Description

Our tips for this stage of the Walserweg Safiental.

  • Islabord viewing platform near Versam: Spectacular view of the unique Rhine Gorge with its rock faces up to 300 m high.

  • Tenna church: the beautifully restored frescoes from the late Middle Ages tell the story of the Passion cycle and are of national importance. It is also worth taking a look at the beautifully decorated wooden ceiling.

From Versam-Safien station, you climb steadily uphill, first through pine forests, through the village of Versam and past typical Walser houses. At the Brüner Alp, the view opens up towards the Surselva and the Grisons Rhine Valley. From here, the route climbs steadily up to Tenner Chrüz at 2,020 m above sea level. The view here is fantastic. It extends from the UNESCO World Heritage Site Tectonicarena Sardona to the cantonal capital of Chur and the Engdin peaks. And for the first time, you can see the Safiental valley with the mighty Piz Beverin. The descent is via the Tenner Alp to the mountain village of Tenna.
