Description
Surrounded by imposing snow peaks, along the pearl necklace of clear Upper Engadin lakes, we head for St. Moritz, where the rich and beautiful meet. However, the route follows the beauty of the landscape: nutcrackers in the Staz forest, the cold River Inn rushing beside us, the clear and fresh air. And there are Engadine delicacies in every village.
After the traffic junction of Samedan, we reach La Punt-Chamues-ch with its magnificent patrician houses. Villages lie on the edge of the wide plain, mighty houses tell stories of harsh winters. We ride up and down the edge of the national park, which was founded in 1914 as the first nature park in Central Europe. The grandiose nature of the Engadin presents itself as calmly as the flapping of an eagle's wings.
From Zernez, the valley becomes narrower and the Inn wilder. After a steep climb, you reach the picture-book village of Guarda and the varied terraced landscape of the Lower Engadin. In Scuol, you can smell the mineral springs from the iron taste of the fountain water, while the thermal baths soothe tired muscles. Small, enchanted villages on the sunny terraces of the dry valley bear witness to earlier settlements. After Martina, the Inn rages through a gorge before escaping into the Tyrol at the eerie Finstermünz castle bridge.
