Skiing in Ticino

These 3 ski resorts ensure skiing fun in the south

Spend the winter season in the ski resorts of Airolo-Pesciüm, Carì and Nara. These three Ticino resorts offer more than just ski slopes. Winter activities such as sledging, snowshoeing and snow tours are also available here.

Airolo

The Airolo-Pesciüm ski area is located at the foot of the Gotthard massif, one of the most important Alpine crossings, in the heart of the Alps. Pesciüm is a vast natural panoramic terrace that towers above the village of Airolo. Thanks to the modern cable car, visitors can be transported effortlessly up to the Sasso della Boggia at 2065 metres above sea level every day. The Alpine landscape offers a magnificent panoramic view of the Gotthard, the Bedretto Valley and the Leventina Valley.

The ski area offers over 30 kilometres of pistes at an altitude between 1175 and 2250 metres above sea level, attracting all winter sports enthusiasts: skiers, snowboarders and snow tourers. The area offers three types of slopes, catering for beginners, advanced and expert skiers. Those who prefer a more leisurely pace can enjoy the more than 10 km of snowshoe trails and savour the relaxing silence and the rugged natural beauty of the surrounding mountains.

Carì

Carì is appreciated as a tourist residential area in the Leventina Valley, thanks to its favourable and sunny location at 1650 metres above sea level on the southern slope of the Alps. Sun, sport and entertainment characterise Carì as an ideal place for sports enthusiasts and nature lovers.

In winter, Carì is transformed into a charming winter resort. The Osteria Belvedere, a mountain restaurant with a large panoramic terrace and a small playground, is located right next to the middle station. ‘Betulin du Lèi’ is the meeting point at 2300 metres above sea level, next to the second chairlift and the mountain lake ‘Lèi di Carì’.

Carì is easily accessible by car, from the A2 motorway in the direction of Sankt Gotthard, take the Faido exit and continue for 12 km to Carì. Or by public transport: take the Treno Gottardo to Faido and then the post bus to Carì. Carì is 150 kilometres from Milan and 140 kilometres from Zurich.

Nara

The Nara ski resort is located in a wide and sunny basin between 1,400 and 2,200 metres above Leontica in the Blenio Valley.

The area is run by the ‘Amici del Nara SA’ group and is suitable for all sports enthusiasts: skiers, snowboarders, children and families, beginners and professionals.

The Nara is not just for classic skiing! You can also go paragliding, telemark skiing and snowshoe hiking. The ski area consists of 30 km of ski slopes, 5 km of toboggan runs, 7 km of winter hiking trails and a snow park with jumps and rails. It is the ideal starting point for reaching numerous peaks from which you can enjoy a magnificent view of the Blenio Valley, the Leventina Valley and the entire Alpine range.
