Chestnut path Murg

The largest sweet chestnut forest north of the Alps.

An autumn hike above Lake Walen. A visit to Murg is all you need to collect fine chestnuts. Thanks to the mild climate, over 1850 sweet chestnuts thrive in Murg. This makes it one of the largest sweet chestnut forests north of the Alps. The trees can reach a height of up to 30 meters and live for several hundred years. Between September and mid-October, it is possible to find ripe sweet chestnuts on the ground along the trail.

The hike starts at Murg train station on Lake Walen. The 2.5 km circular trail leads from the village towards the Murg valley, through chestnut forests, past a chestnut wood production facility and back to the starting point. During the walk, there is a playground with a barbecue area.
