Hiking experience Schächentaler Höhenweg

Arrive in comfort and set off on your hike. This hike takes you to one of the most beautiful pass landscapes in Switzerland in the canton of Uri.

Start the day comfortably with the outward journey on the Treno Gottardo. On arrival, take the bus to Bürglen and then the cable car to Biel. The hike along the Schächentaler Höhenweg starts here and takes you past imposing mountain landscapes and impressive natural scenery in 2.5 hours.

• Outward journey on the Treno Gottardo from Locarno, Zurich or Basel to Flüelen or Altdorf and back from Flüelen

• Outward journey by bus to Brügg (Bürglen) and back from Flüelen (Eggberge valley station)

Hiking route

Starting point: From Biel to Alp Ruogig

The high-altitude enjoyment begins in the blue gondola of the Biel-Kinzig cable car. The starting point of the hike is at 1635 meters above sea level. Ahead of you lie 7.5 kilometers of almost untouched nature. After around 45 minutes, you will reach Alp Ruogig.

Intermediate stop: A stop at Fleschsee for a view and refreshments.

You continue on a gentle uphill walk to the Fleschsee lake. There, at the highest point of the tour, you will find an idyllic family campfire site directly on the mountain lake and the Fleschkiosk will tempt you with delicious food and a fantastic panoramic view. Now you still have three kilometers and 360 meters of downhill ahead of you, most of it through the coniferous forests high above Altdorf.

Destination: Berggasthaus Eggberge

You will reach your destination after a total of approx. 2.5 hours. Treat yourself to a fresh coffee and cake or a cool panaché on the sunny Eggberge plateau before taking the cable car to Flüelen and the Treno Gottardo back home.
