Island hopping on upper Lake Zurich

Island feeling and breathtaking sunsets

Enjoy the island feeling and breathtaking sunsets on the islands of Lützelau and Ufenau near Rapperswil.

The smaller of the two Lake Zurich islands is Lützelau. It is around 300 meters long and around 150 meters wide at its widest point. A simple campsite gives you that Robinson Crusoe feeling, while a small but fine restaurant is open seven days a week in good weather. The island of Lützelau is not served by scheduled boats. It can be reached by the “Lütz-Shuttle” water cab or by private boat/water sports equipment. Suitable boats can be hired in Rapperswil. A special experience for teams is a crossing with a dragon boat or canoe from the Rapperswil-Jona Canoe Club.

The idyllic island of Ufenau is also worth a visit - although swimming around the island is prohibited. It is regularly visited by scheduled boats. On Ufenau, the focus is on enjoyment and culture. The medieval churches give the island a special flair. The island was settled as early as the 2nd/3rd century. The foundations of a Gallo-Roman temple, on which today's parish church was consecrated, bear witness to this. The island restaurant “Haus zu den zwei Raben” is a culinary treat for the senses.

Rent a SUP Stand-up paddles (SUP) can be hired from the Hensa shipping company in Rapperswil harbor. Thanks to the innovative SUP machine at the Stampf lido in Rapperswil, you can get out on the water all year round and all day long. The boards are available from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and can be picked up and returned independently.

Boat to Ufenau The scheduled boats of the Lake Zurich Navigation Company make regular trips to the island of Ufenau. The journey from Rapperswil takes less than a quarter of an hour, from Pfäffikon SZ a few minutes longer. From Zurich, the island of Ufenau is the last stop before Rapperswil-Jona after a boat trip of just under two hours from Bürkliplatz.

Boat to the Lützelau The “Lütz Shuttle” runs for restaurant guests according to a fixed timetable: Monday to Friday at 11.30 am and 12.00 pm from Rapperswil to Lützelau. On Tuesday and Thursday evenings, weather permitting, from 5.30 p.m. to 7 p.m. (last return trip: 10 p.m.). At weekends, the “Lütz-Shuttle” only travels to the island as a cab boat if booked in advance.
