Take the modern Treno Gottardo over the Gotthard panoramic route to Airolo and continue by post bus over the imposing Gotthard Pass to the Sasso San Gottardo fortress.

The Sasso San Gottardo Museum is located in the Gotthard fortress deep inside the mountain. Take the ‘Metro del Sasso’ and discover hidden troop quarters, munitions depots, cannon positions, machine gun positions, fire control centre and much more. About the Gotthard fortress of Sasso San Gottardo
