The unique hiking trail along Lake Zurich offers breathtaking views of the idyllic landscape and exciting puzzles for little explorers. The route
The great thing about the Obersee circular route is that there is no specific starting point. You can choose your own stages and also shorten them by taking the train or bus. The varied circular route also offers various rest and barbecue areas for a cosy break.
Stage 1: Rapperswil-Jona–Altendorf 8.7 km, 2 h 15 min.
Section 2: Pfäffikon SZ–Lachen 7.8 km, 2 h
Section 3: Lachen–Wangen 8.6 km, 2 h 10 min.
Section 4: Wangen–Tuggen 6.5 km, 1 h 55 min.
Stage 5: Tuggen–Schmerikon 6.5 km, 1 h 45 min.
Stage 6: Schmerikon–Rapperswil 12 km, 2 h 55 min.
Riddle fun with the secret society
A trip along the Obersee circular route can become an exciting game of riddles. Helping a secret society shrouded in legend to preserve a valuable treasure and prevent it from disappearing forever. The members of the secret society – they are present as character heads at stage locations – tell stories along the way and also set a task at the same time. Those who manage to solve all the puzzles will be accepted into the secret society.
Explorer backpack
It takes several days to complete all the stages. Unless you are travelling by bike. An explorer backpack can be obtained in Rapperswil, Pfäffikon, Altendorf, Lachen and Schmerikon (at a cost of just under 30 francs). The backpack contains everything you need, and along the way you can take advantage of special culinary, cultural or sporting offers at a discount at various locations.

A new character from the secret society at Obersee awaits you on the Seedamm in Freienbach/Hurden: the SOB train driver!
The SOB is part of the Obersee adventure trail. An eye-catching model of a Traverso-style locomotive, which you can walk through, serves as a centrepiece to the SOB's contribution to the adventure trail. It contains a marble run that represents the SOB's Interregio lines. An information panel provides facts about the history of the Voralpen-Express line. Of course, the SOB train driver also poses a riddle. The solution can be found with the help of the marble run. The best way to discover this with your children is to take the Voralpen-Express to Pfäffikon SZ.
From there, a leisurely walk along a gravel path leads past the Frauenwinkel nature reserve. After 2 kilometres, you will reach the marble run, which invites you to play.
After that, the route continues over the Hurden peninsula to the imposing wooden walkway, which is attractively embedded in the landscape. The jetty takes you to your destination in Rapperswil, where you can enjoy the Mediterranean flair of Rapperswil with an ice cream at the fish market square. The Voralpen-Express will take you comfortably back home from Rapperswil.
